Myofascial Release Technique

An effective technique of massage that treats muscle pain by using a precise knowledge of anatomy to apply tension to a muscle while assisting the patient to actively move through a range of motion.

Myofascial Release Therapy targets tight and tender muscles and surrounding fascia to decrease pain, improve motion in the body, and increase strength.  This technique can be applied to any region of the body.

As our muscles suffer the stresses of daily working postures, and athletics the muscles and fascia can become stuck to surrounding tissues.  By combining active movement and skillful tension applied by the Doctor we can help release the tissue.  Purposed explanations for the effectiveness of Myofascial Release Therapy include a combination of local tissue effects (i.e. improved blood flow, release of adhesions in tissue) and neurological mechanisms (i.e. reflexive relaxation of muscle from the brain).  People who may benefit from Myofascial Release Therapy include those who are suffering from:

  • Muscle aches (acute and chronic)
  • Trigger points (AKA “muscle knots”)
  • Limited mobility in the joints
  • Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (post exercise muscle ache)
  • Headaches
  • TMJ/Jaw pain
  • Rotator cuff/Shoulder pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Shin Splints
  • Peripheral Nerve Entrapment
